Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does “out-of-network” mean?
Out-of-network means that I am not directly contracted with your insurance provider (aside from Aetna through Alma). However, many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for therapy services from licensed professionals who are outside of their network.
-
Can I still work with you if you’re out-of-network for my insurance?
Yes! If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to get reimbursed for a portion of our sessions. I’ll provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company.
-
How do I find out if I have out-of-network benefits?
You can call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
Is a referral or pre-authorization required?
What percentage of the session cost will be reimbursed?
Is there a deductible I need to meet first?
-
How much will I be reimbursed?
Reimbursement rates vary based on your plan. Some plans cover a significant portion (often 50–80%) after you meet your deductible. Your insurance provider can give you exact details.
-
What should I expect in my first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and how we can work together in a way that feels supportive and safe.
-
How long is each session?
The initial intake is 60 minutes. Sessions typically last 50-60 minutes. Some clients may choose longer sessions depending on their needs.
-
How often will I come to therapy?
That is completely up to you! We can discuss a frequency for therapy that feels right for you and aligns with your goals.
-
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes! I offer secure Telehealth appointments for clients who prefer the convenience of meeting from home.
-
How do I know therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure about your needs and how to meet them, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and move forward with more clarity and confidence.
-
What is EMDR, and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain process painful or overwhelming experiences that may be stuck or unhealed. It doesn’t require you to talk about every detail — instead, we use gentle techniques like eye movements or tapping to help your nervous system process and release what’s been holding you back.
-
Will EMDR make me relive past trauma?
EMDR is designed to help you heal at your own pace. We won’t dive into anything you’re not ready for. Many clients find they’re able to revisit past experiences with more distance and support, rather than feeling overwhelmed or re-traumatized.
-
What is somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy is about bringing awareness to the body’s experience — not just thoughts and emotions. It’s a gentle way of tuning into sensations, breath, posture, and tension, helping you reconnect with yourself and release stress or trauma that’s been stored physically.
-
I feel disconnected from my body — can somatic work still help?
Absolutely. Feeling disconnected is incredibly common, especially after long-term stress or trauma. Somatic work meets you where you are and gently supports reconnection. We might begin with small things like noticing your breath or where you feel tension — always at your pace.
-
What is attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy explores how early relationships — especially with caregivers — shaped how you relate to yourself and others today. If you often feel anxious in relationships, fear rejection, or struggle to trust, this work can help you develop safer, more secure ways of connecting.
-
Can these approaches be combined?
Yes — EMDR, somatic work, and attachment therapy can be integrated in a way that supports your unique needs. Healing is never one-size-fits-all, and we’ll collaborate on what feels most supportive for you.
-
What if I’m nervous to try something new?
That’s completely okay. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe and grounded for you. You’re always in control of your process, and I’ll be there to guide and support you each step of the way.
